Unilever and McDonald’s top global Effie Index 2025 ranking for marketing effectiveness

The latest Effie Index reveals the world’s most effective marketers, brands, agencies and holding companies, based on proven business results generated by award-winning campaigns across global markets.

Unilever and McDonald’s have emerged as the leading names in the 2025 Effie Index, Effie Worldwide’s annual ranking of marketing effectiveness, which evaluates brands, agencies and holding groups based on the measurable impact of their campaigns.

The index highlights organisations that have successfully combined strong business performance with creativity, consistency and cultural relevance.

Unilever leads global marketer rankings

In the global marketer ranking, Unilever secured the top position, followed by McDonald’s, AB InBev, PepsiCo and Nestlé.

According to Effie Worldwide, the strongest performers have built their success around “sustainable brand platforms and cultural relevance” — demonstrating the importance of long-term brand strategies in delivering measurable business growth.

McDonald’s remains the world’s most effective brand

McDonald’s retained its position as the world’s most effective brand for the fifth consecutive year.

The global fast-food giant was followed by Burger King, Ukrainian retailer Silpo, Dove and IKEA in the top five brand rankings.

Omnicom leads among holding companies

The holding company ranking was topped by Omnicom, followed by WPP, Interpublic Group (IPG), Publicis Groupe and Havas.

Among agency networks, Leo ranked first globally, ahead of McCann Worldgroup and Ogilvy.

At agency-office level, Brazil’s AlmapBBDO in São Paulo claimed the number one position worldwide. Leo Burnett Mumbai and Ukraine’s Banda agency also delivered standout performances, ranking among the global leaders.

Banda agency becomes a global independent powerhouse

One of the most notable stories in this year’s Effie Index is the rise of Banda agency, the independent Kyiv-based creative shop.

Banda was named the world’s most effective independent agency and also ranked third among all agency offices globally. The agency additionally topped the European ranking for agency offices, marking a significant achievement for the Ukrainian creative industry.

Among independent agencies worldwide, New York-based Mischief @ No Fixed Address ranked second, followed by The Womb from Mumbai. The global independent agency ranking was completed by Rafineri from Istanbul and Reuveni Pridan from Bnei Brak.

Regional leaders reflect diverse market strengths

The Effie Index 2025 also highlights different regional patterns across global markets:

  • Europe: McDonald’s and Omnicom dominated the rankings.
  • Latin America: AB InBev and BBDO recorded particularly strong performances.
  • North America: L’Oréal and Molson Coors led among marketers, while IPG topped the holding company ranking.
  • Asia: PepsiCo and McDonald’s emerged as the leading performers.

Bulgarian agencies among Europe’s most effective independents

Bulgaria also secured recognition in the global effectiveness rankings.

Noble was ranked 16th among Europe’s most effective independent agencies, making it the highest-ranked Bulgarian agency in the 2025 Effie Index.

Independent agency proof. also achieved international recognition, ranking 40th in the same European independent agency category.

The Effie Index is based on effectiveness results from campaigns recognised through the Effie Awards programme, which evaluates marketing success through tangible outcomes rather than creative recognition alone.
