European Design Awards Celebrates Outstanding Design Talent in Naples

The 18th edition of the EuropeanDesign Awards (EDA), the prestigious annual event honouring designexcellence throughout Europe, concluded with a spectacular Awards Ceremony in the vibrant city of Naples.

The European Design Awards have long been celebrated as a premierplatform recognising the ingenuity, creativity, and innovation of Europe’s design community. Each year, the event honours theexceptional achievements of talented designers who push theboundaries of creative expression, inform and educate the public, addvalue to the economy, and leave a lasting impact on society.

The Awards Ceremony served as the grand finale to the European Design Festival, organised by AIAP, Italy’s premier designassociation. The Festival featured a diverse range ofengagingactivities, including workshops, panel discussions, conferences, andexhibitions, showcasing the multifaceted nature of design and itssignificant influence on various fields.

Naples, with its rich history, cultural heritage, and innovative spirit,provided an ideal backdrop for this grand celebration of Europeancreativity. The city’s picturesque landscapes, historic architecture, andvibrant atmosphere enhanced the overall experience of the EuropeanDesign Awards, inspiring participants and attendees alike.

Grand Awards

The 2024 European Design Agency of the Year was awarded to Studio Airportfrom the Netherlands. Studio Airport is anindependent practice in graphic design and film exploring the progressive intersection of these two disciplines. Shifting betweenlarge scale storytelling platforms and small-sized commissions, theteam finds a rare balance between the commercial and personal.

Founded in 2011 by Bram Broerse and Maurits Wouters, StudioAirport consists of a close team of creatives accompanied by anetwork of specialists. In the past 10 years Studio Airport has wonnational and international awards with their work for EmergenceMagazine, The Design Museum, Normal Phenomena of Life, the HartIsland Project, Slowness and Sapiens Magazine.

Next to the studiothey’re also tutors at the master department of the Design AcademyEindhoven.TheBest of Show Digital Applicationsdistinction was awarded to”Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano”byLandon. This projectrebranded the renowned Milanese orchestra, formerly known as “LaVerdi”, creating a universal and inclusive identity that resonates witha wide audience. Inspired by Milan’s Futurist heritage, the new visualsystem translates music into “sounding visuals,” making the orchestraaccessible to all.

The Best of Show Graphic Applications distinction was awarded to”Emergence Magazine Vol.4 Shifting Landscapes“by StudioAirport. This publication reflects the seismic shifts in Earth’s ancientpatterns and cultural landscapes, presenting new storiesand voicesthat navigate these changes with profound insight and creativity.

The Best of Show Branding & Packaging distinction was awardedto”Ladler“by Lukas Diemling. This project transformed the brandof an Austrian family-run business crafting curlingice stocks andaccessories. The rebranding incorporates elements of the productitself, creating a timeless yet modern visual identity that resonateswith authenticity and clear recognition.

The Jury Prize was awarded to “Abetka–Typeface Alphabet oftheUkrainian Identity“. This project, presented on Ukraine’s Independence Day, promotes modern Ukrainian fonts and educatesthe public about the symbols of Ukrainian statehood. The typeface Abetka represents 33 Ukrainian letters, each associated withsignificant events and symbols of Ukraine’s history and identity.

Next year’s European Design Festival will be hosted in Ljubljana,Slovenia, under the auspices of the Brumen Foundation, theorganisers behind Slovenia’s Design Biennale.
